Worth the Short Drive
Have you ever gone furniture shopping, only to end up at home, tired, frustrated and empty-handed?
Welcome to our website! As we have the ability to list over one million items on our website (our selection changes all of the time), it is not feasible for a company our size to record and playback the descriptions on every item on our website. However, if you have a disability we are here to help you. Please call our disability services phone line at (641) 792-3100 during regular business hours and one of our kind and friendly personal shoppers will help you navigate through our website, help conduct advanced searches, help you choose the item you are looking for with the specifications you are seeking, read you the specifications of any item and consult with you about the products themselves. There is no charge for the help of this personal shopper for anyone with a disability. Finally, your personal shopper will explain our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service, and help you place an order if you so desire.
Worth the Short Drive
Have you ever gone furniture shopping, only to end up at home, tired, frustrated and empty-handed?
It might be worth your while to make the short drive to Newton Furniture, where you'll find over 32,000 square feet of high quality home furnishings at reasonable prices, along with a staff that is eager to help you, not sell to you.
"The customer wants to be helped," says Tim Altenhofen, "Not to be pushed, not to be told, but to be helped. Some stores feel that it's a hard-sell close the deal kind of world but not at Newton Furniture."
"Newton Furniture is part of a different world, " says Tim. His employees still practice the same customer service philosophy that Tim learned from his parents, Keith and Ann. How often do you go somewhere and feel truly helped? "It's not selling," he explained, "it's helping people, it's really that simple."
The Altenhofens have been in the furniture business for over 60 years, serving Des Moines, Ankeny, Newton, Grinnell, Marshalltown, Ames, Pella, Oskaloosa, Knoxville, Indianola, Ottumwa, Boone, and beyond. Keith and Ann got their start in Sigourney and later purchased Holiday Furniture in Grinnell. In 1963 they moved to Newton and purchased Newton Furniture. Their son, Tim, grew up in the business and continues to build on his parents' legacy.
Their first lesson...that the family business is people, not furniture, says Tim.
"You meet the public, you deal with people," he said. "That's the success of the store, without that, it doesn't work."
Their second lesson...to offer quality products at a variety of prices.
Customers who visit Newton Furniture will find one of Iowa's largest Thomasville Galleries, a Flexsteel Gallery and top name brands such as La-Z-Boy, Simmons - Beautyrest, England, Best Home Furnishings, A.A. Laun, and many more quality manufacturers to satisfy almost every customer's budget and taste.
Their third lesson...to offer customers better help and better services.
That means free delivery throughout central Iowa. And when your funiture arrives, it's delivered by Newton Furniture employees, not a delivery service. "If a customer drives to Newton to look at furniture, we should drive to their home to deliver it," explained Tim. "How could you consider yourself a full-service store and charge for delivery?"
And that attitude explains the most important lesson of all. "If there's a problem, we take care of it," said Tim. "We do it because it's the right thing to do, because that's how we were raised, because that's who we are."
